This project replaced the 161-feet long Main Street Bridge (Route 60) over Smith Creek in the Town of Clifton Forge, Alleghany County. Currently Main Street is one way at this location consisting of two 11-foot westbound travel lanes and one 11-foot, six-inch wide lane for street side parking. Sidewalks measuring eight-feet to nine-feet wide are on each side of the road. The purpose is to replace a deteriorating bridge which has reached the end of its useful life. Benefits include safety to the traveling public and a replacement bridge compatible with the proposed Clifton Forge downtown revitalization master plan.
